We are always interested in hearing more about the individuals in food banking across Canada! This month, our spotlight is on Richard Daneau from Moisson Montréal in Montréal, QC.
What is your role in food banking?
As Executive Director, I am the one responsible for delivering the service as per our mission. My main role is to bring the ship in safer and calmer seas to the benefits of people facing hunger.
Describe a typical day in one word.
Maintaining the overall positive attitude of all stakeholders and navigating between short term issues and more important long-term ones through which we deploy and continuously improve our services.
What was your inspiration to get involved in food banking?
I was retired and wanted to be a good example for my kids. We all have more power and influence that we may think from time to time. I was impressed by the positioning of Montreal’s main food bank.
What is your greatest achievement in your current role?
The development of the team and the results they achieve day after day within our community. In January 2020, 4,1 million pounds were given to agencies supporting people in need. They are just amazing!!
If you could have one wish granted that would address hunger in Canada what would it be?
In Darwin’s view of things, there will always be people more vulnerable than others. I hope solidarity and community engagement remains core values for Canadians.
Which talent would you most like to have?
I do not wish nor have hopes for things I do not have. I only wish to fully utilize and optimize everything that was granted to me. That, I have control over.
If you could tell your younger self advice, what would it be?
Look up carefully at everybody surrounding you. It is just amazing what they can bring you if you pay attention enough.
Who are your heroes? Fictional or real life
My parents, for their love, their values, their strengths and their commitment.
What is your idea of happiness?
Family time, traveling and discovering.
What is your motto?
- We send people to the moon and we manage to bring them back most of the time. Nothing is impossible.
- Don’t tell me you did not have the time to do what you had committed to. Instead, say it bluntly, you did not want to do it. When is the last time your car ran out of gas?
Something quirky about you that others may not expect or know?
I am shy, fragile and vulnerable…but I work a lot on myself. ?
Your theme song?
Tu trouveras la paix
